First Lesson: Know That You Are A Child Of God
As far as we can remember, we have always called God, our Father.
The problem is that we attribute to Father God the characteristics of a human father. Because of this, we think that Father God loves us when we are good, and hates us when we are bad. We have come to believe that God punishes us when we are bad “for our own good,” just like our human father does.
Father God is love everlasting -- love yesterday, love today, love tomorrow, and love forever.

In the story of the prodigal son, the father didn’t punish the son. When the son came home, “... his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20) Then, the father put the best robe on him, put a ring on his finger, shoes on his feet, killed a fattened calf and had a feast in his honor.
Father God is love everlasting -- love yesterday, love today, love tomorrow, and love forever.
- The truth is, that you are a child of a Father who cannot hate you.
- The truth is, that you are a child of a Father who is supportive.
- The truth is, that you are a child of a Father who is not vindictive.
You are a child of God. You are a child created in the image of the Father. Because the father created you in his own image, you are like the Father. Celebrate your childship by letting the Father be God in you. Let the Father express Himself as you and you will do wonderful things. Just as your brother, Jesus, did wonderful things, you will also do wonderful things. Jesus said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these...” (John 14:12)
Establish your divine childship of the Father by declaring: “I am a beloved child of God, made perfect as the Father in heaven is perfect.”
Knowing that you are a beloved child of God is the first step towards your unity with the Father.
